Owlet Update:
Little Owlet is still there.
He watches from way up high in the branches.
Mom is usually sitting with owlet, but she flew off before picture was taken.
In case you are just joining the story of the owlet, it is a Great Horned Owl.
Mom and Dad have their nest in this big digger pine tree or one that is about 50 yards away each year. We have lived here 29 years and for about 10 years we have watched them each year.
They could have been there longer, but we never noticed until about 10 years ago.
We always heard them whooooo whooooing, but never investigated where they were living.
Turns out they were right in front of our eyes. We just never looked hard enough.
We enjoy them so much.
They are friendly and curious and entertaining to watch.
One difference this year is that in another pine tree we have a nesting wood duck.
Her eggs should hatch this weekend.
That will be quite interesting because the owls are just a stones throw away.
Hope they all survive and make it to the little creek down the hill.
Oh and the owls are busy catching something else to eat.
Never a dull moment here.
