A Bit of Snow

It wasn't snowmageddon, but we did get about 6 inches. It has melted fast and we are getting rain this morning.

Here is a few pictures of the snow that is left.

Basically a muddy mess.

So as of now, a snowman would be hard to build.

The best part though, is I get a day off work.👍

My daughter sent pictures of the kids building a snowman. They had more snow where they are.

I ran and bought boots and gloves for them yesterday after work and my husband took them over this morning.

Vince ended up wearing his sisters old gloves. The camo gloves I got were to big. LOL

I'm so glad they had fun and were able to build snow memories.

Have a great day!

Jose' And Maria

O.K. you all know I love Mexican decor. I have plenty, but I just had to have two more pieces to add to the mix.

They started out like this.

I found them on Zulily.

You can see why they were not fitting in.

Nothing to do with the fact they were made in China.

Anyhow, I had them for a while and decided to mosaic something on them.

They just weren't fitting in.

So I added some mosaic tiles.

They sat all summer on the patio table, but they still didn't fit in with all my Talavera dishes and wall hangings. You can see the huge talavera ball behind them.

One day I was noticing an old chip and dip sombrero that I had made into a planter and 👀

 I thought of a plan.

The chip and dip sombrero was my parents and it was used all the time when I was growing up.

My parents loved to entertain and the sombrero was always full of chips and dip.

I decided it was time to put it to a new use.

Do you see where this is going?

Anyhow, after a lot of work to change their appearance I am finally happy with them.

I hope you enjoy them as well.

Meet Maria and Jose'

I made Jose's neckerchief and added a mustache too.

Maria has some pretty eyelashes, a flashy pair of green crystal earrings and a rosary necklace.

Both are planters as you can see.
I will need to freshen up the sombrero plants in the spring.
I put them both back on the patio table under the umbrella.
They should do fine there.

We are supposedly going to get hammered with a huge storm tomorrow.
Right now it is sunny and nice outside.
It is hard to imagine snow and wind coming in.
60 miles an hour? Heavy wet snow? Seriously?
I will have to move some stuff if it happens. I don't want things getting broken like   Snowmageddon of 2019!
Check back on Wednesday and I will post some pictures if we get snow!

More Slag Glass Lamps

 Back by popular demand.

More of my slag glass lamps.

Aren't they beautiful?😁

The plants love them too.

I am sure I mentioned in an earlier post that growing up my Mom had one just like this first lamp.

She sold the lampshade at some point and replaced it with a tiffany style lampshade.

When she passed away I wanted to find another slag glass lampshade like the one I had growing up.

Well, it was simple to find one on eBay and from there my obsession grew.

They are relatively cheap.

I really enjoy them.

And yes I love my taxidermy!

I have found them at various places including my favorite antique shop.

They get special hats for the holidays. They are all very loved.

The taxidermy obsession started years ago when someone was selling an antelope at the flea market.

I felt sorry for it just laying there on the table. It was only 25 dollars so I snatched it up. I named him Andy and he has been hanging out with us for almost 30 years.

Right now he sports a bird nest in his antlers.

Oh and a classy bow tie!

My brother found the bird nest on the ground.
Sparrows nest?
I  told him I had the perfect spot for it.
Andy doesn't mind at all.😅

All the animals have names.

O.K. now you know more then you wanted to. 😁

Until next time, enjoy!

House Plants

I can never have enough house plants.

I love how they make the room feel like a jungle.

Yes they require care, but no more then say a 2 year old. 😁

They are so fun and entertaining!

I am looking for a hoya kerrii plant. Not the heart in the pot, but the whole plant that will grow and produce a lot of heart shaped leaves.

Then maybe I will quit looking for new plants.😂

When Your Daughter Gives You Lemons...

 What do you do?

Well I made Lemon Bars!

My daughter and son in law bought a house 7 years ago in an older neighborhood with a huge lemon tree.

It was a selling point for sure!

Since they have been there they have had a truck load of lemons off that tree.

I do have my own lemon tree, but it is young and small and we only get about a dozen or so a year.

Every year I make lemon bars or lemon cake.

Today was my sister in laws birthday, so I made some lemon bars for her.

I only used three lemons.

I will have to make a cake later on this week sometime.

I already took a bunch of lemons to work and gave them away.😁

Are you enjoying the week so far?

New Vintage Lamp

I love these slag glass lamps and now I have three. This one is different because it is a hanging lamp.

I bought it to shine light on a plant. During the winter not as much sun reaches this spot on a dark rainy day. My house plants need more light, so I found another light source!

Green is my favorite color. These slag glass lamps are perfect for me. I have no idea why I have an obsession with them.😁

I hope your week goes well!

Snail

This little golden snail is such a fun thing to watch. In the picture below you can see his air tube coming up.

When he reaches the top of the water he will send that up and out of the water to get a breath of air.
It is pretty amazing to watch.
The aquarium has been a real fun thing to have during this past year. I have really enjoyed all the fish and Joanie etc.
Polly is still trying to pop out that front arm.
It is interesting that they all get along.  A lot of different fish/critters in the same tank.

New

My son adopted this bird from Haven Humane yesterday.

It is pretty friendly. I think it has said a few words too.
It is a Conure.
I think it could have been owned by an older person.
There were no records of previous owner.
Someone turned it in and said it was found.
Anyhow, it will have a fabulous home with us.

Tomorrow is Friday, so yay for that.
A three day weekend too!
I love three day weekends.
Nothing planned, but I will have the Princess over for a visit one of the days.
The weather is suppose to be sunny and warm!
Perfect for doing something fun outside!

New Violets

I found these African Violets at my local nursery.

I love violets. They are such old

fashioned plants.  They grow well for me too so that's a plus!

These two were not named. Both are in 2 inch pots.  I like their variegated leaves.

Photo Bomber

I have been enjoying the pollywog.  Yesterday I noticed the front leg was starting to make progress, so I had to try and get a picture of the beginning stage of that process. However, the gold fish was not having any part of that. The gold fish are front and center, always.

So I waited till this morning and then tried again.
You can see the opening in the picture above. The leg will just pop out suddenly. I was lucky to see that happen one day with a previous batch of pollywogs I raised.
No doubt I will miss it happening this time, but I keep checking on polly.
You can see a white bump inside the hole. That is the leg poking through.
The other front leg has not made any changes yet.

This whole process amazes me. I think it is so cool to see.
It is fun to watch how Polly changes from a fish to a frog.

The Princess was over yesterday and I showed her. I took Polly out of the aquarium so she could look at the hole up close. She felt the leg opening and thought it was awesome.
Next week when she comes over Polly will have a front leg or two.

It was a fun day with a trip to the creek of course.
The Princess found a pumpkin seed floating in the water.
We thought that was pretty cool too.
We are wondering if any pumpkin seeds will grow this spring.
Have a great Monday! I will update when Polly gets her leg!

Sourdough Day

It happened to be back to work day too, but... well... I am not celebrating that for obvious reasons.😊

Bread on the other hand is a celebration each time I bake and it turns out nice!

Happy Tuesday.
I like short weeks.
It is stressful working at school.
I am looking forward to the next vacation in... February!
Is it Friday yet?
Hope your day was great!

Happy New Year!

I am hoping for a better year this year.

I would say it can't get any worse, but that would be wrong.

I just hope it is a whole lot better.

At least I get to see the grandkids whenever I want.

They had these adorable pictures taken today.

I am so blessed and thankful.
I hope you have a wonderful, happy and healthy 2021~
