Scorcing Temperatures All Week

You would think nothing would be alive after having 113 degree days and a week of over 107 degrees. This week has already hit 110 degrees.

Well these plants seem to thrive.

They just need water.

Why did I never plant marigolds before? They are the highlight of the garden this year.

I love how big they are and how in your face colorful they have become.

I can look out the window and see them and it makes me so happy.

We had a small problem when I planted them because the snails liked them too, but once that problem was solved they took off and went wild.

 

And this clematis, which I don't know that name of, has been blooming since spring. It is in the full sun all day. It just amazes me. The iris need cutting back, but haven't got to that yet. (-:

 

Of course cone flowers are heat proof.

 

So are hibiscus

 

The lady planter has ice plant in her head. It seems to like the full sun as well.

 

That's it for today. I have been trying to clean up the dead blooms and pull out things I no longer enjoy.

Cool Hummingbird

This little hummingbird sits on the hummingbird food hanger, under the misters most of the day.

It was 112 here Thursday.

I keep the misters going for all the little critters.



What To Do When It Is 113 Outside?

Slushies!

We fired up the Margarita Maker and made some blue ice.

Buying that Margarita maker was a great idea.

The slushies are perfect!

The Princess was laughing because she has a blue tongue.

And yes it makes the perfect Margarita/Daiquiri and Pina Colada!

Of course that is for another time.

 

Princess time is of course non alcohol.

 

It was to hot to even go run through the sprinklers.

Ugh! Tomorrow will be cooler.

I can't wait(-:



Hot Head

From the head planter collection.

She is actually a wall pocket.

The Semp seemed to look perfect in her head.

I hung her on the patio gate arbor.

She can keep watch on the yellow jackets for me.

My favorite. I love seeing her bloom. So dainty.



Hibiscus vs Rose of Sharon

I love both.

Both are similar, but of course different.

Still they bring a tropical feel to a garden paradise.

Ah, Summer!

 

These are hibiscus.

 

 

These are Rose of Sharon.

 

 

The hibiscus are just getting started. Soon they will light up the garden.

They are the Summer wow here. I love them!

 



Lotus Keep Cool

If you stare at a lotus bloom you can't help but feel cooler.

You're welcome!

Now hydrate and avoid the burning rays of the fire ball in the sky!



Thirsty Thursday

Keeping everything hydrated is a real chore with the death star looming above, casting it's evil heat down on everything. Everything is so thirsty and frazzled. Even the humans.

 

Ah, the sound of fall is lurking just beyond that summer sun, dying to make itself known.

 

Just hang on a bit longer.

A bit longer to smell the freshly mowed grass.

A bit longer to enjoy the blooms, fresh veggies and fruit.

A bit longer to make all those plans for a perfect fall harvest.

A bit longer to wish upon the last summer star filled night.

A bit longer to hear the children playing, the butterflies flittering, and the birds chirping.

Enjoy these long, heat filled days and don't be in a hurry to see them go.

Keep showering your flowers with water and love,

 And of course,

 Yourself too!

 

 



Wordless Wednesday

 



Zucchini Spaghetti

When you grow enough zucchini to feed the county. This was a good way to eat it.

Just ran the zucchini through the veggie cutter to make noodles. Added sauce and cheese.

I boiled the zucchini and heated sauce separately.

Sauce was made with our home grown tomatoes.

I need to try the lasagna next. I heard it was yummy too.

Have you tried different recipes with zucchini instead of regular pasta?



Bee Stings

Yesterday while pruning the hedge I was attacked by the meat bees.

They stung/bit me 9 times.

Doing o.k. but a lot of swelling and redness.

I managed to finish my yard work and today just been hanging around the inside of the house.



Extreme Heat = Dwindling Flowers

There are still a few things blooming, but they have been burned or chewed up by bugs or not looking to good. Here are a few things that are still thriving.

Of course Rudebeckia

The clematis on the beach sign is still blooming.

 Of course hens and chicks grow in the heat.

 This hydrangea is about done.
Oh and that little seed head there that has star shapes?
It is Jerusalem sage.

One of my favorite roses, Dainty Bess.

 Cannas love the heat.

 So do Hibiscus.

 Laura Bush Rose is still blooming.

 And the Lotus are blooming. The one below is over my head.

 The Walmart Daylily is still going strong.

Love this white glad.
