Merry Christmas

I hope you have been doing well. I am off work and enjoying my vacation.

The school year is flying by. It has been so busy the past month at work and at home.

I am glad for a little time off to enjoy the holidays.

I didn't have a lot of things to do for Christmas, but I did make my Grandmas German Chocolate Cake!

It is not the most beautiful cake I have ever made, but it smells heavenly and I snuck a bite of the frosting and it was so yummy. It is tomorrows dessert. I can't wait!

I forgot to take a picture of my molassas cookies, but they were super yummy!

I have been baking sourdough bread.

I made four loaves for people I work with before the break.  Thanks for that suggestion Sheri!

Everyone enjoyed it and it made a nice gift.

Of course you heard about the earthquake in CA. It was very scary to get woke up in the middle of the night hearing my phone go off with that shrilling alert. The quake was on the coast, which is 3.5 hours away. No idea why they sent alerts to us. Anyhow, I was so thankful I didn't have to go to work the next day!

My brother and his wife got Covid. They are fine. Not a bad one, thank God. They were mildly ill. Still felt like being up and about.

I guess that is about it here. Nothing exciting just busy with life!

I hope you enjoy the rest of the year!

Merry Christmas!!!!!

November

I usually walk around 7 am and lately it is dark at that time still.

This morning I had to take a flashlight. Crazy how fast the days change.

Next weekend we turn our clocks back one hour. That will help a lot with my walk.

This morning we had a beautiful sunrise.

There were clouds in the sky!

We did have some rain today! It was really nice.

We need a lot more of course, but I was so happy with what we did get.

It is suppose to rain all week.

Yesterday was Halloween. I made some mummy dogs for dinner.

I searched all over town for candy eyes. They were sold out everywhere.

I guess everyone was making them.

They were really yummy and I will make them again.

I used my regular yeast roll dough to wrap the hotdog.

I also made a pumpkin face on my sourdough bread.

That is about all that is happening here.

I hope you have a wonderful November!

Halloween Photo

This is an oldie but goodie.

My brother and me almost 60 years ago.

We were so cute.

I hope you are having fun getting ready for Halloween.

Enjoy your week!

Some Halloween Decor

The porch display.
Skeletons having dinner. 😂

I tried something new with my sourdough. I left in the fridge for three days and then baked it.
It turned out great. So FYI that is something you can do if you want to have fresh bread for the middle of the week!

Pumpkins!

Yesterday the Princess came over and we picked pumpkins in the garden. There were bugs, so basically she watched us pick them, but she was there so that counts! She can't wait to carve one and she is also looking forward to dropping them off the bridge after Halloween. We all look forward to that day. It is really fun!

This year there were several different colors. No giant pumpkins, but that is o.k. because those things are so heavy!

I am excited to set them on the porch. Hopefully I can get that done this week.

Also today was baking day and I made sourdough bread as usual!

I am getting better with the round loaf. They all taste the same.

Happy October and Happy Fall!

Time Flies

We are done with our fourth week of school already. I can't believe how fast it has gone.

The garden is tired of the 110+ degree days.

I am too.

Here are some happy succulents that do like it hot!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Enjoy!

Back To School

Well the first week is behind us and we look forward to week number two.

I was looking at the number of days I work on an email I got. 181 work days for me. Seems like forever until summer is here again.

In the meantime I will be busy making sure the kids have lunch ready for them to eat.

Today I baked sourdough for my family.

I am still using the bannetons. I think next time I will go back to the bread pan.

For one reason it's faster. I can bake both loaves at the same time.

They all taste the same.

It's easier.😊

Anyhow nothing else happening here. It's been hot.  So mostly hanging out inside.

I hope you have a great week!

Cloud Angel's

This morning after my walk I looked up in the sky and saw four cloud Angel's. Of course by the time I got my phone out to take their pictures they had moved a bit. You can still see them though. I thought I would share them today with you.

Have a beautiful day!

More Hot and Humid Days

I have to get out and walk my 2 miles early and then water my potted plants. It has been hot here as usual.

Today I baked sourdough. I have been trying the bannetons, but I really think I like the bread pan better.

Although I like the cuts I made in this one.

I might try the bannetons a few more times before I go back to the bread pan.

The only thing about using the bread pan is I can bake both loaves at the same time.

So that makes it faster and easier.

Just a couple weeks and school will be starting.

The end of summer vacation is coming faster then I want, but that is how it goes every year.

I hope you are enjoying your week!

Yard Art Makeovers

The racoons broke my octopus the other night. It was shattered. I glued it back together, but decided it needed painting.

I had some silver colored silicone caulking to fill in cracks and holes so I used that.

Then I painted it.

The fish was not broken just faded for years in the sun, so I painted it too.

The temperature got up to 114 degrees last week and then we had a cooling down.
Now it has been cooler, but extremely humid.
I am staying busy inside.
I hope you are staying cool!

Staying Cool

I made pizza rolls and dinner rolls and took some to the Princess and her brother.

Their parents are on a diet so can't have any.

Pizza rolls are so easy to make. Basically same as cinnamon rolls.  Just add pepperoni, sauce and cheese and roll up and cut. I also made some chocolate chip cookies for them.

Before they rose and baked.
After they come out of the oven I brush them with butter.
They are really yummy.

I forgot to take a picture of them baked. I guess I was in a hurry to get them delivered.

The kids had a virus that wasn't covid, this past week so I didn't get to see them. I think the pizza rolls will help get them back in the swing of things.

The heat has arrived and tomorrow it is suppose to be 111+ here. I am hoping the weather man is wrong.

I will let you know how high the temperature actually gets after tomorrow. 😎 It is summer and it is expected, but I am never prepared for the heat.

Stay cool!

Hot and Smoky

It is another hot one here today. Smoke from the fire down south is hovering above us, making it hazy outside. Not enough to keep me inside though so that is good.

Although the smoke messes with my allergies, so I can't be out to much.
So another day of doing something inside.
Yesterday I did a make over on a frame I had. It was pewter colored and I made it bronze colored.
I added an old vintage greeting card as a picture. My Mom had a bunch of old greeting cards that I could choose from.
In this picture if you look closely at the greeting card it has glitter on parts of it. Do you remember how in the old days they put glitter on greeting cards? I do. I am that old!
They made things so pretty back then.
Anyhow,
here is how it looks.

In the 90's I loved the pewter colored frames. I had a bunch of them. I have a lot I don't use, so I thought it would be fun to paint it up and use it. I am happy with how it turned out.
I hope you are having fun today doing whatever you enjoy doing!

More Hot Days

It has been around 107 this week. To hot to do anything outside in the afternoon.

We went to a baseball game and we were all hot after that. Then the Princess was sick the rest of the week with a virus. So this week wasn't so great.

Today I got up walked my two miles and baked my sourdough. I tried different shapes today.

It still tastes the same just different.

Nothing else exciting is happening around here.

We have been doing projects around the house, that is about it.

One thing that was done was a window sill for my bathroom.

I have never had a sill. Just the drywall around the window painted. So my husband used a piece of scrap granite and made one for me.

I was so happy! Now I can put my plants there and not worry.

Funny how things work out.

I have wanted a sill for the 32 years we have lived here. So now I have one!

There was never a rush as you can see. 😂

I still have touch up painting to do.

It is a good time to paint in doors.

I hope your weekend is off to a great start!

Blooms

It is another hot day here.

This is some of what is blooming.

 Hope you are staying cool!

The Princess

It is summer baseball season!

Ugh!  It is also the hottest time of the year!

She loves baseball!

We love her so much!

It is only 101 degrees today, but we have a huge wild fire in the area.

So not sure if they will have a game tonight or if it will be cancelled.

Hopefully the fire fighters can get a hold on the fire.

We appreciate all their hard work.

Take care and stay cool!

Another Day, Another Flower

The heat wave has subsided for now. Today it is only suppose to get to 100 degrees.

The flowers love the heat I guess.  Here is what is blooming.

That is all for now.
Hope you are enjoying your day!
