Barnwood Quilt

My daughter had this made for me for Christmas using scraps of wood from around the ranch. It is a memory quilt so to speak. Pieces of wood my Dad used for this or that at one time. So it is like having pieces of history all wrapped into a warm wooden creation.

I miss my Dad every day.  He was my best friend.

Anyhow, I appreciate the detailed work of the barn quilt. I hung it up and I will enjoy it for many years to come.

Upside Down Frosty

This is the last snowman I am making this year.

This one is for my daughter/kids. I know the Princess will get a kick out of it.

So now on to cleaning and getting ready for Santa to make a visit.

I hope you are enjoying your Christmas preparations as we close in on the big day!

Snowmeggedon

 I made another snowman.

Frosty went to live with my co worker.

Snowmeggedon is staying here for now.

I think this is the last one I am making this year.
They take a long time to make all their parts.
They were fun to make though.
I hope you are staying warm and having a great holiday season!

The Princess is 8!

Oh how the years have flown by.

I can't believe my beautiful Princess is turning 8.

When she was born it was a true blessing and a real miracle.

She arrived early at 4 pounds 8 ounces!

You've come a long way baby!
I love you more and more everyday!
You are a shining star!
You fill the world with light, laughter and joy!
We are so blessed to have you!
Happy Birthday!
I hope you have the best day ever!

Only 8 more years and you will be driving!
Yikes!

Merry Snowman

Every year I make something for the season. Usually snowmen. I don't know why. I just really like them.

This year I made a clay pot snowman.

The first attempt wasn't just what I wanted, so I had to re do it. It took all week of sanding, painting and creating.  This is the final result.

I made the scarf out of my Dad's pajama pants.

I made the snowmans pants/hat band out of some old jeans of my husbands.

The hat and nose are clay. The clay was not the kind you have to bake, however... note to self, the baking clay is much better.

Anyhow, that is what I have been doing this week.

We have one more school week and then we are off for two weeks.

I can't wait!

I hope you are enjoying the holiday season!

Some Christmas Decor

Going light on the decorations this year due my puppy Baylee. He is a sweet boy, but he loves to find things to chew on. I didn't want him to be chewing on my Christmas tree ornaments and I didn't want to constantly be saying no. So I am not putting it up this year. I think this is the first time in 40 years. I am fine with it though. I have three lighted ceramic trees to fill the gap.

I put one in my Mom's curio cabinet.

Along with my Cuthbertsons Christmas plates.

I also have my big snowman.
I got him several years ago at Bath and Bodyworks.
You can add a candle or lights inside.
I haven't done that yet this year.

I put a plant in his head for now.

This is my largest ceramic tree.

I also hung my primitive snowman garland I made years ago.

That's about it for me. I am working on the front porch too.
I want to find a lighted outdoor snowman for there, but of course things are hard to find now days.
I can always work on that next year.
I hope you are having fun decorating for Christmas at your house!

Thanksgiving Preparations

I decorated the curio cabinet that was my Moms.

The blue turkey plates were my Grandmothers.

She had them as long as I can remember. They have been packed away in a box until this past week.

I thought I would dig them out and use them for my display.

They haven't been out of the box in over 30 years. I thought it was time to use them.

Next is a picture of my Mother in Law.

I never met her, she passed before I met my husband.

My Father in Law passed years before she did. I wish I had met them.

They sounded like wonderful people.

This picture was in the local newspaper when my MIL was a young lady.

I thought about it last week and what a great addition to the Thanksgiving decor it would be.

First I needed to find a frame. I looked on etsy and there it was.

It came the other day and I hung it right up.

I am sure my granddaughter will get a kick out of it.

I love the frame it goes so well with all my antique things.

I still am waiting for my granddaughter to come over so we can make some table decorations.

I hope she can come over this weekend. I miss her so much when I don't see her every week.

Being a grandmother is hard unless you live next door to your grandkids.

My dad was so lucky to have lived just down the road from us. He saw the kids everyday.

They had the best childhood. He was the best grandpa.

I'm sure it was hard at times, but it was worth it.

My grandparents and I were close and I spent a lot of time with them growing up.

One of my favorite memories was Thanksgiving dinners. She always had a wonderful meal and beautiful table decorations. She was so good at doing all that. I have tried to follow her example.

I always enjoy setting the table with my Thanksgiving dishes and decorations.

I know a lot of people are into paper and plastic, but I am not one of those.

I cook all day and want to enjoy the meal on nice dishes with silverware. I am not sure if young people appreciate it anymore, but I sure do.

More and more I hear of people buying meals prepared and bringing them home to eat.

I have gone out to dinner on Thanksgiving before. It was nice, but not the same.

How do you do Thanksgiving?

Sourdough Monday

I was busy on the weekend so didn't get to make bread until Sunday. I baked it today.

This is a short week at school. Veterans Day is Thursday and we have Friday off as well.

I am ready for a vacation.

This school year has been very tiring.

We are having another storm visit the area and I can't wait to see how much rain falls.

I hope you are enjoying your week!

Happy Halloween

I hope you have a safe and fun day!

Yesterday the Princess came over for a visit.

It was the first time I had seen her in 6 weeks!

😭

We carved pumpkins, decorated cookies, had a tea party and went to the creek. It was a fun day and I was tireddddd by the end!

I am happy we got to do so much in one day!

It was a lot of fun!

Ejoy your last day of the month!

Crazy Weather

We had a major storm here over the weekend.

We had a total of 5.8 inches in this area. It was part of the bombcyclone.

Needless to say fire season is done.

Here is Baylee as he lays under his blanket.

He wasn't impressed with the pouring rain all weekend.

We ran out in-between pouring rain to take him to go potty.

Other then watching it rain I made sourdough.

The creek is once again running and the ponds are filling up.

It was a great weekend!

Next weekend is Halloween!

Time is flying!

Have a great week!

New Lamp and Teapot

I took the aquarium down and out the goldfish in the outdoor bathtub pond with the other fish.  So afterwards I decided I missed the light from the aquarium. It was a nice light for the corner of the kitchen.  I didn't want the aquarium there any longer though. It required a lot of maintenance and since Joanie died, and I let the bullfrog go I wasn't that interested in it. Cleaning every week got to be a drag.. So I decided a new vintage lamp was needed. I went on eBay and there it was.  My favorite color and everything.  It was like it was calling to me.  I bought it and it arrived today.

Also today my pumpkin teapot arrived. I ordered last December. No I wasn't happy it took so long, but I am happy it finally came.

Now hopefully the Princess can come over for cookie baking and a tea party.  She has a sinus infection now apparently. 😭. I think because of Covid.  I think she should have stayed home for another week, but she went to school.  So now she is sick with sinus.  Covid tears down your immune system. Hopefully she feels better by Saturday. If not maybe the following Saturday before Halloween.  This has been a terrible school year so far. I am so ready for Christmas break.

Today was a big protest day in the state of California. Kids, teachers and other school employees were absent from school to protest the covid vaccine and mask mandates. I went to school. We had less then half the kids we normally have in attendance.  Needless to say it was a quiet day.  Tomorrow is back to normal I guess?

I understand why parents etc are protesting this mandate.  Right to choose what goes in to your body should be your choice.  Not the governments. I chose to get the vaccine because I didn't want to end up on a ventilator, but each day that goes by new medicine is developing that can help fight the virus.  I think soon there will be a drug like they have for the flu. In the meantime whoever chooses not to get vaccinated will have to be careful not to get sick.  It's a scary illness, but thankfully most kids do fine. I don't believe they need to be vaccinated.

Adults are different. Especially older people.

I still think everyone should be in charge of their own bodies though.

Our school is testing anyone not vaccinated each week. The cost for testing at our school this year is 70 thousand dollars. We have a small school. That is insane.

Especially since even if vaccinated you can get the virus. My daughter and her husband are vaccinated and both got Covid. So it's not a sure thing by any means.

There are no answers.

Just wash your hands. I am a firm believer in sanitizing. Do you best and hopefully you will stay safe and healthy.

Sourdough Sunday

            It's always fun making sourdough.

Each week the dough is different even though  I weigh everything. I guess it depends on the weather or temperature in the house etc.  Anyhow, this week's bread is yummy. I wish I had more time to make more. I would make it a couple times a week just to practice. Oh well.

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday!

A Little Halloween Decor

Finally got motivated to do something today.

This year we grew some cool pumpkins. This one is called a knuckle head and there are some Cinderella pumpkins too.

This one has what looks like spider webs.

It was fun to grow them.

Decided this year it would just be on the front porch for outside decorations. In past years we decorated by our front gate, but this year since my daughter and family had Covid, my granddaughter wasn't able to come over to supervise.  I hope she can visit in a week or so. If not then it will be Halloween.

The inside I did the entryway table.

Most of it stays up year around. I put up seasonal garland around the antique mirror and add funny hats to Charles and Viktoria. Viktoria usually wears her crown except for holidays.

I also decorate my Mom's display case for the seasons.

Anyhow that's it for
my Halloween decorations.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
