Freezing With A Chance Of Snow

What?

Seriously where is Spring?

I have things starting to bloom. It is wacky.

They are getting frozen in place.

 

Star Magnolia is looking burned from the constant frosty nights.

 

I still have daffodils blooming

 

The Camellias are about finished blooming.

 

The Lenten Rose seem to like the cold.

 

The mermaid is tired of freezing her tail fin off!

 

Not much happening in the waterbed pond.

 

So just incase you are ready for this Winter to be over...

 

 

 

 

Seed Update

It is slow growing. I don't have a greenhouse so I just have the seeds in the kitchen where it is pretty light and gets some sunshine through the window. The violets like it. Maybe the seeds not so much.

Oh well they are growing slow. Maybe will be ready to plant outside when Spring arrives.

Out of 11 seeds I started,  I have 8 plants.

So that is not to bad I guess.

 

The Lewisia I started with 20 and I have 8  that are growing so far.

I still am hoping more germinate.  They look like grass growing so far.

Not to interesting right now. They must be slow growing plants. (-:

It will be fun to see if they continue to grow and eventually bloom someday. Stay tuned...(-:

 



There Are Some New Kids In Town

O.K. well they have feathers, but they are still my kids.

I got two Araucanas and two Rhode Island Reds last Tuesday.

The old girls are getting up there in age so I thought it was time to get a couple more.

Actually Red is 9 years old

Blackie is 3 I think

 

The Araucanas have already laid eggs. The Rhode Islands have not yet.

I was going to get chicks, but it takes so long for them to start laying eggs I decided to just spend extra and get some young layers. Blackie is some weird cross that also lays a green egg. So we now have three green egg laying hens and two brown egg layers. Red no longer lays. She retired now.(-:



Creek Visit

Another trip to the creek today. The Princess found this wee little snail shell. A different type of snail. Maybe a water type? The ones we have in the yard are dark brow and big.

 

While there it began to snow a slush. This rock was hit by two drops. I thought that was kinda cool so I got a quick picture.

 

 



A Review of a Dog Calming Vest

I rarely do reviews on products and of course I never get paid for doing a review, but I am compelled to do this one on my own, for the sake of all dog owners who may have a dog that suffers from anxiety. The dog in the picture is not Jack, but a nice model who is wearing the product. (-:

 

My Dog Jack is a Rat Terrier. He has always had anxiety. He has so much energy inside. Think small dog with BIG dog energy. As he has grown older he has taken to licking his paws, stomach etc. Well it could drive a person crazy for sure, but I was worried about Jack. I did not want to give him meds. I wanted to find something that could calm him naturally. On a trip to a local pet store I found something advertised as a calming vest. They are around 40 dollars at the place I got mine. I did not hesitate to grab one. I was skeptical of course, but I thought I would give it a try. I came home and later that afternoon Jack stared in on his licking. I said, Jack lets try this new vest out. (-:

He wasn't thrilled to put it on, but as soon as that thing was on he laid down and never licked again. He slept all night and since then whenever he gets anxious I put the vest on and he is as happy as a clam at high tide. (-:

I have had the vest over a month now. I don't use it everyday or even every other day etc. Just as needed.

The vest I bought is called a Thunder Shirt. It is a name brand. I got Jacks at Petco. There are other ones out there, but this one comes with a warranty. If it doesn't work for your dog you just take it back. I liked that feature. (-:

It says it helps with all kinds of things that cause anxiety in dogs. Seriously, for Jack this has been a wonderful thing. It is amazing. I don't know how it works, but it really does.

I remove it for walks, potty breaks etc.

They come in all sizes. Because big dogs have anxiety too.(-:

 



Moooove Over

The ladies don't share to well when it comes to the salt block.

They push and shove to get their head in there. I asked to pose nicely for a photo and one agreed to a quick shot. Then back to licking the day away.



Remembering the Tree Ghost

I use to walk by and look at this Tree Ghost everyday. Tree Ghost

Then one day it was gone.

Looking closer it had fallen over. It was just an old tree stump and it weighed a ton.

It looked small from across the creek, but when I went to look closer it was huge!

It still lays on its side in the same place. I will have to go look at it again sometime and see what shape it is in now.

I really wanted to relocate it to my house, but since it weighed so much and was so big there was no way to move it. Now we have a trailer for moving things so that could be a possibility.

 

Cow Pie Heart

Yup it is that time again.

You know you get a laugh or two out of it. I certainly do.

Today's rare find from the walk in the cow park, is a heart shaped cow pie.

A little late for Valentines Day, but better late then never as they say.(-:

 

Perhaps not as tasty as a chocolate heart, but it could be useful in other ways.

Fertilizer perhaps?

Or maybe just there to enjoy, as you stroll along.

Whatever it is, it makes me laugh and gives me something to share today.

Plants and Seeds

The hollyhock seeds are growing well.

Enee, Meenee, Mynee and Mo are all up and growing. I have two more that are about ready to pop out some leaves too.

 

I also have some Lewisia Little Peach seeds that are sprouting.

 

I bought some plants too.

I think these plants are so cute.

One thing they don't like though. is to be drowned.

So good drainage is important. I think they grow better in a pot for me. I can keep an eye on them better then if in the ground. The ones I have planted in the ground in the past have died.

More Sprouting Seeds

I am so excited to share the news that two more have popped open and started to grow.

Springage

It is the time between Winter and Spring(-:

 

We are all trying to drag ourselves out of the Winter ho hums. This little bit of color has brightened my day for sure.

Looking forward to the tulips blooming.

Meanwhile...more raking and clean up in the garden.

So much to do.

 

 

 

 



Hollyhock Starting

Last Summer when my Mom's house sold we frantically packed everything and moved it out. It was a whirlwind ordeal. The house sold in three days.
My Mom had passed away the year before, but with probate we had to wait to sell the house.
So as I was taking a last look around the yard I saw some volunteer hollyhock seedlings popping up here and there.
 I dug them up and transplanted them at my house.
Two survived.
At the same time I also gathered seeds from the dead hollyhock plants.  I decided now was a good time to try and germinate some.
So far one has.

I am still excited that one has. I hope more do but I am happy I have at least one.
No telling how long the seeds had hung on the dead hollyhock plants.
I will be happy to see them bloom.
My Mom loved hollyhocks and so do I.
It will be a nice surprise to see what color they are. A sort of last gift from my Mom.

I will keep you posted of the progress of them.

Violets

As you probably know I am addicted to violets. I have been since I was a kid. I use to take care of a friends house when she was on vacation. She had some beautiful violets. I use to love to see them blooming. So that started my addiction.  I have had several blooming violets in my house ever since. Here is what is blooming today.

 

I don't repot them anymore as I find they enjoy being crowed into a pot. They bloom better that way. I also fertilize with liquid violet fertilizer every time I water them. Since I have been doing that they seem to bloom almost all year long. I am trying a new fertilizer this month which is Optimara. Before that I used Shultz. I am going to switch back and forth and see what happens. So far they seem pretty happy.
