HaPpY hAlLoWeEn

Carve a pumpkin and light it up!
Keep your eye out for goblins,
Or a witch flying in.
An empty spider web.
Or a bat or two.
A hazy glow around the moon.
Don't fret the small stuff,
On this night of tricks.
Treat yourself!
Stay out of trouble and be safe!
And on this last day of October 2017,
I
wish you a Happy Halloween! (-:

Old Poem

I found this poem in my Mom's things. She kept it all these years for some reason. I guess she really didn't like growing up in Canada? LOL
She use to say she would never go back there. She did however go back to visit family a couple times over the years. She also traveled to different parts of Canada too.
I thought I would share this today. It is a nice poem.
My Mom was born and raised in Alberta.

Head In A Jar

A little humor for your Saturday. I have had this head planter for a few years. I could never find a plant that would actually grow in it. It has sat empty for most of the time until today.  I ordered some metal rusty crowns and decided one might be perfect for the planter. It just needed to be bent around and yup it fits just right. I had the apothecary jar already. Win Win! (-:

Happy Saturday!

Changed up the little guy.
Found some vintage lace and whatever they are in my Mom's sewing stuff. They are glass bubble type things. So I guess will have to re name this little head, Bubble Head. (-:

Another Trip To The Creek and Pumpkin Carving

The weeks fly by here. I have no idea why, but one day it is Sunday the next it is Saturday. In-between I have the Princess. I try to fill each day with as much as I can. Sometimes by 8PM I am asleep. It just seems to go that way for the most part. It seems busier as I get older.
I thought old age was suppose to be slower. (-:
Anyhow, this is what we did this week.
We found some more rocks and a jaw. I like the number 8 rock. I also collect heart rocks so they are always fun to find. The largest rock looks like a face. With one eye larger then the other. There is also a letter D rock. So all fun stuff for that trip to the creek.

And we carved the pumpkin.
The Princess insisted she could light the candle inside. So grown up!
Hard to believe.
Nothing planned for the weekend as usual. Just hanging out.
Hope you have a great Friday!

Out With The Old

In with the old.
I had some crocks with lids that were old that I sat on the counter. Various junk would reside inside. A type of junk collector of sorts. Meanwhile important useful things were kept in the cupboard. So while shopping yesterday I found some nice large apothecary jars to store flour and sugar in. I use bread flour daily for my sourdough starter. I like having it handy to use. I do bake a lot too, so having the stuff needed handy, is going to be much easier then getting in and out of cupboards.
I love the new jars.
I will fill them today when I go to the store. The large ones will hold 10 lbs pounds of flour or sugar at least. The smaller one holds 5 pounds. I will probably put brown sugar in it, in a Ziploc to keep fresh.

I already had this one for my bread flour.

I also added an antique pull to my old jar lid I keep bars in.

So I am all set for holiday baking. Looking forward to using my new/old apothecary jars.

Letter Rocks

Yesterdays trip to the  creek.
Letter Rocks!
Can you read each letter?
It is amazing what nature makes right?
Happy Friday!

Getting In The Spirit

It was a nice Fall day today so decided this was the day to take pictures.
Tomorrow and Friday it is suppose to rain. Then you just never know about what will happen next week. So this was the open window of time.
I love pictures.
The Princess usually does too so I am lucky.
These are my favorites.

Rusted Lace

Back at the creek yesterday again. I found this very cool looking piece of metal. Perfectly rusted and to me it looks like a piece of lace. You must use your imagination(-:
So pretty. It was thin, but heavy. I love finding things in the creek.

No spiders this time which was nice. (-:
I hope you have a great Saturday!

Creepy Spider

At the creek yesterday again. This time took the Princess too. We found this.
Could be a basic garden spider, but it was huge! The biggest spider I have ever seen around here.
So creepy. Fits in with the Halloween season.

Rock Hunting

Took Junior out for a spin yesterday.

Found a lot of rocks for my next pathway project. Waiting until the plants all die down in Winter for that. The turkeys like to walk though the plants and I decided to make them a path to walk on instead. They just trample the plants to the ground. So will see how they like the new pathway. They actually use the other ones. It is really funny to watch them. They walk single file through the pathways in the yard. So this might work. At least I hope it does for next year.

New Ranch Vehicle

Decided we needed a little vehicle to drive around on the ranch. It is pretty fun and just the basics on it. It will be great to drive back and forth on the road to get mail take out trash and check on cows. They should be here in a month or less. It will also be fun to cruise around with the Princess.
We saw it at Tractor Supply before we got sick with the dreaded virus. We had not gone back until last week and looked at it again. Thought it over and decided it was a good deal.
Hubby went to pick it up and bring it home.
We took a spin around the property and decided it was the ticket for us old folks. (-:
I know I will use it a lot.
Fun times ahead!

Kinetic Sand

The Princess made me a Kinetic Sand Cookie. I thought it was pretty creative. She made it by herself. I really liked that one eye was bigger then the other. I think she has the creative gene. (-:

If you haven't tried the kinetic sand yet, you must get some for your kids to try. Or heck just get some for yourself! It is a very different experience. It has a different feel to it and it does not dry out.
You can spend hours playing with it. It is better then play dough!  Not messy like play dough is. If it falls on the floor you can just pick up right up or not. It won't dry and cake in the flooring.
It comes in a re-seal bag so you can put it away after you use it and play again later. It is amazing what is available for kids now days.
We still like playing in the sand outside, but this is a fun thing to do inside at anytime!

New Mosaic Mirror

I found another mirror tray at a local antique and craft mall. The mirror was all faded away so I decided I would just do another mosaic with mirrors. I added some timed, wire lights to it afterwards.
The butterfly display and the mosaic cone shaped item I bought.  I think the lights add some fun to it.
I love the mirror mosaics. They are super easy to do and they make the right amount of sparkle to display items on. It gives me something to do and keeps me out of trouble. (-:
Have a great day!

Fall Scentsy

Last year my daughter got me the Scentsy burner that you display items in. I had so much fun with it for the Holidays until the burner quit burning. Which was around the end of January. It basically lasted 4 months. I use my burner everyday. My daughter contacted her sales person and she said she would order me a new one. Well the new one also came with a new glass jar. It was the whole shebang!  Anyhow, I put that away because I got the little Gnome Scentsy for Spring/Summer. I took the new Scentsy burner out last month to set it up for Fall and guess what? It was smaller then the last one I had. So my Fall decorations did not fit.  I had to find something new.  I found one on eBay and ordered it. It is a Hallmark ornament for Fall. But, as I learned not all Hallmark ornaments fit inside the Scentsy jar so beware! Measure your jar and your ornament first before buying.
I might change the moss. I haven't decided with what yet. I love Snoopy though. I will have to work on it this weekend when I have more time. Maybe a sign behind Snoopy/Charlie Brown and Lucy.
Hope you are having a good week!

Flower Bowl

This flower bowl was my Moms.  It sat on our dining room table for 45 years. My Mom always had flowers in it she picked from the yard or bought at the store.
I have it on my table now, and I am enjoying picking flowers for it.
The girl has a bottom with holes which she stands on. You can kind of see it in the picture.
The flowers poke into the holes around the bottom of her. It is quite unique. I really like her. I took the pictures with my phone so they are not the greatest quality, but you can see what I am talking about.(-:
I can't wait until the camellias bloom!  I will now have a place to float them.

This weekend I visited my favorite little antique shop. I haven't been there since I got the virus. They had a lot of Halloween stuff mixed in with their décor. It was fun to see. I bought two antique picture frames without glass. I had to take them to the glass shop to have glass cut to fit.
They are brass. Guess I should have taken a picture of them. (-: I added a couple butterfly pictures to display in them.
Then we went to Hobby Lobby. It just opened here in town.
Holy Cow that place is huge! I have never seen so much stuff in my life!
I spent over an hour looking at everything. I ended up getting two butterflies and some craft supplies. I can see where that place will be the best place to shop at Christmas time!
There seems to be something for everyone there.
Nothing else happening. It has been windy here. I hate the wind.
I wish it would rain.
Caught up on chores today. Tomorrow the Princess will be here. The weekends go way to fast!

Baking With The Princess

We made date bars the other day. I forgot to post it.
They were really yummy. I followed a Betty Crocker recipe because I could not find my Grandmas. They were pretty close. I think next time I will put less sugar in the dates. It called for 1/4 cup of sugar, but that seemed like to much. I think the dates are pretty sweet.
It called for a pound of pitted dates chopped up. The chopping up was the hard part. The rest was fun.
Over all they were pretty good though.
The Princess enjoys cooking. She really has the whole process down pat. Her and her Mom cook a lot too.
