Fall Has Arrived

                                                               
It has been cool here in the mornings and evenings. The days are getting shorter. I am happy to see the cooler temperatures but rain would be nice.
A week ago I woke up to knee pain. Unknown how that happened but it was terrible working all week. Today it seems a little bit better so I am hoping it is on the mend. It is hard getting older with all the things that seem to go wrong all the time. To top that off I had a Dentist appointment too. That went well though, I just hate going. So I am looking forward to a new week. I hope you are doing well.

Recent Rescue

A Redtail Hawk spent the night Friday night. We then took him to the local wildlife rescue shelter. He could not fly. Not sure what was wrong. I did not see any sign of injury but apparently they have soft tissue in their wings that can get injured easily. I am not a fan of these birds since they do catch my chickens/ducks but I guess everything deserves a chance(-: It did however grab me twice with it's talons. It did not pierce the skin which was very lucky for me. Just squeezed very hard around my arm and stomach. It felt like the skin was pierced. I was able to pry its talons apart.(-:
Anyhow, I gave him water and fed him some tasty venison which he seemed to enjoy. I think part of his problem was he was dehydrated and hungry. The lady that rescues these birds said she would keep him in a quiet place, hydrate him and feed him until he could fly again. Yay...probably be back later to eat one of my chickens. Ugh! (-:

Mystery Flower

Not sure what this is. It came up by itself. I like the leaves so far but I am sure it is a weed. Can't wait to see what the flower looks like when it opens.(-:

A Bright Spot On A Smoky Day

That is where I headed yesterday to escape the smoke that blankets the area where I live. We headed up the hill to my favorite plant sale (Simply Plants) where I purchased some new Echinaceas and a Coreopsis for my garden.(-:
It was nice to see Yvette and Michelle again too(-: I can't wait to go back for the next plant sale(-:

This morning while walking the dogs I saw this interesting log. I thought it looked like a face.(-: It was a crispy 54 degrees today. I think Fall is coming soon.(-:

Oh Deer

Well first it was the grasshoppers...then the snails...then the heat...and now we have deer.



I understand they are hungry and there is nothing else for them to eat around here, but come on,... my hibiscus? They were looking so pretty too.


In other news...there are fires burning all around us and it is very smoky here. Not a good time to go outside.

Check In With Captain Jack

I just wanted to let all my fans know I am back to normal after that horrid rattlesnake bite. I thought you would like to see a picture to prove I am still alive and kicking.


I did finish off the snake as you might say. No one bites Captain Jack and lives. Although I have learned that rattlesnakes are not worth messing with. Or, I need to be faster next time? We'll see...for now I have to pretend I am done with them or my Mom may have a coronary.

Now on to other lessons learned in my life...

This morning I took my Mom on a walk and we saw TWO skunks. I didn't even chase them. I thought I would let my mom think I was over with the whole Skunk thing too. I already found out what skunks can do with their tail raised, and I don't want to go there again. It requires a bath and baths are no fun! Besides, baths are for city dogs, not country dogs like me.

Country dogs love smells and there are just so many living out here where I do! Washing them off really upsets me. I know my Mom doesn't like all the smells I get into. She just can't appreciate the work that is involved in rolling around to cover my whole body. For instance, it is amazing what a cow pie will do to your fur. Then to think all that work is washed away...down the drain...geez. Another smell I just love is a dead animal. Nothing and I mean nothing beats that smell on the o'll coat. It even tends to linger after a couple baths. Well I could go on and on as you may well imagine, but I must get busy. There are rats to kill, squirrels to chase and of course a long afternoon nap in the air conditioned house.

So in closing I would like to say thanks for checking in with me to see how I am. I appreciate all your good thoughts on my recovery. Of course I did play it up long after I was better just to get all those extra hugs/rubs and treats. I kinda think my mom deserves a little break now since she does have to go back to school soon. I promise to mind my manners and stay out of trouble for a little bit.

It Is So Hot

I think this rabbit says it all. What else can you do when it is 108 degrees? I am sick of the heat and ready for some cooler Fall weather. How about tomorrow?

I can literally watch the plants wilt. I could water 24/7 and they would probably just boil.

Everyday I also have about 6 turkeys that come and stretch out in the yard to cool off. There is no where else to go in this unending Summer heat.
We won't mention what the rabbits eat and what the turkeys destroy by scratching and digging in the garden. It is all just a part of living in the country. I do love most of the critters and I am glad I get to visit with them each day.
