This is my early Mothers Day present to myself.
It was fate that we stopped by my favorite garden shop today.
Jose Antonio's is an awesome shop with so many cool decorations for the garden.
Plus, they have a huge pond with a waterfall.
I just love to go visit. It is where we saw the owls taking a bath last Summer.
What fun! I love that place! Everyone is so nice and friendly.
Anyhow, here is my latest addition to the Butterfly garden.

I ordered this flat of little hens and chicks. Can't wait to plant them all. Whoot!
I got this planter at Orchard. I planted it with a bunch of Hens and Chicks (Sempervivums)I already had and a Firesticks succulent.
Hens and Chicks in a shoe of mice.
The Princess today!
Another cute one!
Sour dough bread I made today.

Well My Mom is at the rehab place once again. This time from dehydration and weakness due to end stage Alzheimer's. You may recall I took her to her regular doctor in February because she was doing bad. He then told me she had end stage Alzheimer's. We did not know. She chose not to tell us for some reason.
Anyhow, at that visit, Doc said that's the way it goes. At some point she will need to go into a facility. I want to point out that he did not do any vitals at that appointment. So off we go back to her home. Yes she lives at her own home with a "friend". Her "friend" is a worthless POS, but I won't go into that now.
So....I got her to bed and left. Speed through two months and she is worse. I see her every week to take her to her hair appointment. Each time I ask her if she is o.k. etc. She always says she is fine. She doesn't look fine and I tell her she needs to eat and drink. I tell her "friend" that also. No go on that. So time goes by.
A week ago Saturday I was summoned to her house by her "friend" and found her to be incapacitated on the toilet. "Friend" could not get her up. I tried, she crumbled to the floor. 911 was called and off she went to the ER. MANY IV bags of fluids later, I will say more then 6...and several bags of antibiotics...at least 5...She was sent off to rehab. For an idea how dehydrated she was, the nurses could not even get one drop of urine in a catheter.
Was her family doctor wrong for not sending her to the hospital when we were there two months ago? It was obvious to me she was dehydrated then. She had all the symptoms or a UTI but he did not check anything or order any tests.
I am not in charge of her. She chose to be in charge of herself through out this time. Even going as far as not telling the family she had Alzheimer's. Although, obviously she calls when she needs something. Her doctor only told me because I was concerned and the day we were at his office she was totally out of it. He did not tell me anything else though. Yay HIPA! He did say she was diagnosed in 2012.
Through all these years we knew she was not mentally well. She was an alcoholic all her life, so we chalked it up to that. Of course we never got a long. We have a long history. I do what I can because that is who I am. Not because I want to. She has treated me and my brother terribly for years, not just since she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It started when I was born. My brother and I could write a book and maybe someday we will. That is just a quick summary.
Anyhow, that is my update on that. We saw her yesterday. My brother came up. She is hanging in there. Still taking antibiotics and still laying in bed. She said she was having pain in her back. We don't know what that is from. The nurse said maybe because she was laying in bed so much. She lays in bed 24/7 at home too, so doubtful that is the reason. It is all new to me with the Alzheimer's thing. I have read and heard stories but nothing compares to hands on experience. Wowzer.

Seriously, if you leave and don't close the gate, the whole herd is there in a flash. Today it was less then five minutes. I opened the gate for my son. I left it open because...no cows in sight. Went inside, got my coffee and sat down. Jack barked, and yup all the cows and their boyfriend were in the yard again. Ugh!
Can you say BBQ?
At least when I go out and yell at them they leave. They know they are not suppose to come in. LOL

How cute is this? It was at Rite Aide. I couldn't pass it up. It has a little candle like bulb that flickers.
My brother brought me this milk can. I wasn't sure about the "flames", but they kinda grew on me. Tried to create a "spilled milk" planting. I can't wait to see it in a few weeks(-:
And last but not least, my friend Gimplee.
You can only guess why we named him that.
He walks with a limp.
He showed up last Spring and hung out here all Summer.
He left in October and had not been seen since then.
Last week he returned. I was so happy to see that he survived.
He and his friends are all enjoying an endless supply of scratch grains in their dish.

Well it was another project that was more work then I thought, but it turned out the way I wanted. So all is good(-:
Don't look to the right of picture that is where the cows hang out. They could possibly stick their heads through the barbed wire fence and eat the stuff in the planters if they tried. I am hoping they don't. One more month and they will be moving out. They keep getting in the yard when the gate is left open. )-: They could be no where in sight and bam... they are in the yard the next minute. Usually they go down the driveway and around the back, but every now and then they take a trip through the yard. 1500+ pounds of beast is not what I want trampling through the garden. Yesterday the whole heard was in the yard. Calves and all. Even the Bull. I was glad they chose to go around the back and not through the yard. Sometimes they are nice that way. The grass is always greener or whatever I guess.
Anyhow here is the pathway
Here is a look from the other end.
Can't wait till all the plants fill in the planters.

Sourdough bread making has been quite the challenge. I have tried everything. To much water...not enough...rises...doesn't rise...starter no good...you name it I have been there. This time I decreased the amount of water in the recipe by 20 more grams. This is seriously the most challenging thing I have ever baked. I see the pictures of everyone's bread and I think... Wow!
So here is where I am at today.
In the oven...20 or so more mins to go...
Sliced and tested.
It is the best so far but still not the way I want it to look. I need to work more on forming. Tastes great though(-:

The President Clematis
Laura Bush Rose
I think this is 4th of July Rose
Very old unnamed rose I got 30 years ago from my Grandparents neighbor who was over 90 years old. She brought the original plant with her when she moved to the area. So she is always in my thoughts when I see this little beauty blooming.
So many of my plants I got from people that have since passed away.
My Great Aunt gave me a lot of what I had to start with when I moved here. She loved gardening.
I loved visiting her garden.(-:
This is an old rock face I found at a garage sale
Last but not least my new rock face.
