With A Heavy Heart

I put on my shoes and headed off to the wooded area where the owlets live yesterday evening, only to be greeted by this...

I was instantly saddened to think I had lost a dear friend. I then began searching for my owlet and located him in another area he frequents. He then flew back over to the tree where the carcus was. He sat for me for a few photos before flying off again. It was time for his dinner. I am glad he is still with me, but sad that he lost his sibling.)-: RIP dear owlet!

Aw, life is so hard on birds.

What is big enough in your area to first catch, then eat an owl? That would take a pretty big predator.

Sorry to read this, we lost one too. Hit by a truck, people drive way to fast on our road...

Awe, that is so sad;-( Nature can be so cruel sometimes. And as we know, nature can be so amazing, too. I hope the remaining owlet continues to do well!

I felt sad all day for my little owl family. I think it was no doubt a hawk that got the owlet. Hawks will kill chickens no problem. The owlet was about the size of a chicken. We have a lot of hawks around here and also eagles and falcons. One of those probably killed and ate it. )-:

With hawks and eagles around it's a wonder the owls make it at all. So sad. I hope your other little guy survives. Keep us posted. Great photos too by the way.

Do you have any idea what killed them? .. Sorry .. I just read about the hawk issue .. I feel badly for them and for you and I so hope the remaining owlet can survive.
