My daughter and her BF collected these for me today. I have never seen a red mushroom like these except in pictures. They are all very cool and there is some kind of yellow jelly fungi too. I arranged them all in the wheelbarrow for a picture.
This is definately the year for mushrooms and fungi. I have never seen so many.

Just A Glimpse

Yellow Daffodils.
Growing strong,
A whispering breeze,
A sweet Spring song,

Chirping,

Clucking,

Chattering too,

Is it finally gone?
The Winter blues?
I see the signs,
All through the yard,
Life peeking up,
From soil once hard,
The sky is blue,
The trees have buds,
Is it time to remember,
What,
Once was?
Wait,
Hold on,
Whats that I see?
Upon the mountains,
To the West,

To the East,

Don't pack away,
Your Winter gear,
It has not left us,
Yet,
I fear.

Took the dogs for a walk this afternoon as the sun was going down. It was very pretty especially since we had a break in the weather! Good old sunshine for a change!!!(-: The dogs were happy! Jack managed to catch two mice. A double homicide for him. I may need to change his name to Dexter(-:
He was to tired to comment, but he wanted me to tell you he enjoyed his walk!

Once again,
It pours outside,
The pond is full,
The creek rages below,
The critters have,
No place to go,
To dry their feathers,
Fur or hide,
I should open the door,
Invite them inside,
We could watch a movie,
I would pop some corn,
Sit by the fire,
Toasty and warm,
They could sleep on the sofa,
Recline in the chair,
Prop up their feet,
Or hooves in the air,
Safe from harm,
No worries,
No cares.

When I was a kid my friend made these delightful treats for us on several occasions. I just had to get the recipe and make them. Well that was, lets see...nearly 40 years ago! I make them all the time and nothing is better when you are craving something tasty!
If you would like to try making them here is the recipe!
1 Cup Butter
2 Cups Flour
1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
Use a pastry cutter and cut the ingredients together until it is well blended. Then spread into a 9X12 Pyrex dish forming it up the sides. This is your crust.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 15 mins.
While the above is cooking prepare the mixture below in your mixer:
Start by beating:
4 Eggs
Add:
5 Tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon juice
3 Regular sized lemon rinds grated
1 teaspoon of baking powder
2 Cups of Sugar
Pour over the crust and
Bake for 25 mins. in a 350 degree oven.
It should be a golden brown on top and not runny when you gently move the pan. If it is not quite cooked, leave in the oven another 5 mins. Let cool completely before you cut the squares with a sharp knife.

This batch is actually going to a guy my husband works with. He said he hasn't had homebaked goodies like mine since his Mom was alive. I thought that was a pretty nice compliment(-: It deserves a batch of Lemon Bars for sure!!! They just happen to be his favorite(-:

Winter Dreams

Raindrops fall,
In a steady stream,
I sit by,
My window,
And dream.
Eyes closed,
A cloudless sky,
Warm sunbeams,
Embrace and sigh.

A fresh,
Spring day,
No more gloom.
In the field,
Wildflowers bloom,
Butterflies,
Flutter by,
An owl hoots,
A red tail cries,

Oriole nests,
Hanging in trees,
Birds flying,
The buzzing of bees.
Fresh mowed grass,
Seeds,
Sprouting anew,
A robins nest with,
Eggs of blue.

My dream is over,
I wake,
From sleep,
It's late,
Darkness creeps,
Rain falls,
The fire glows,
Outside,
The wind still blows.

Do you long for the Conversation Heart candy every year when it comes out? Well our family does. We can't wait to get some. Well this year I bought some as soon as it was out on the shelf and boy were we all disappointed! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww
So I wrote a letter to the company and showed my unhappiness(-: Here is what they wrote back and said.

January 10, 2010

Thank you for contacting the New England Confectionery Company regarding your experience with our Conversation Hearts. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to inform us of this incident and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

We are sorry to learn you were disappointed with the new heart flavors you purchased.

I am sorry but the Original one’s are no longer.

These are the only flavor changes all others are the same.

Wintergreen is no longer

Banana is now Lemon

Lime is now Sour Apple

We appreciate your patronage and hope you will continue to enjoy our products.

Sincerely,

Theresa Denis
Consumer Correspondent

To me these are not the powdery delicious candies that I have had since I was a kid. These all have a fruity nasty taste to them. I found a blog online about this and it seems I am not alone! Have you tried them yet? Let me know what you think!!!!

Ahoy Maties!

Shiver Me Timbers!
It is way to cold and windy outside!
I think I will just rest right here under the blankies today(-:
I hope all my fur buddies are warm and toasty under their blankies too!
I'm thinking summer heat and the good old sun shining down on my fur.
Chasing squirrels and whatever else will run from me!
Digging in the dirt, taking a dirt bath...oh the life! I do miss it!
Take care friends! Captain Jack

Wind

The wind is blowing,
Oh, so, hard.
To bad it can not clear my yard.
But, no matter,
How hard it blows,
The leaves are stuck,
To the grass below.

It screamed and howled,
All through the night!
It certainly caused us,
Quite a fright.
The branches were bending,
Reaching, far,
As if they were grasping for a star.

But, the moon was gone.
The stars not out.
Rain was falling all about.
For this my friend,
Is winter time.
I must end this now,
I'm out of time.

The little mushroom stood there,
growing in the rain.
fresh water falling,
to ease his growing pains.

He had nowhere he had to be,
He had no place to go,
So he sat amongst the grassy weeds
And watched the fungus grow.

Carrot Nose Cate

Well here are the girls together. Carrot Nose Cate came about her name because of her nose. I had a left over nose from the snowman that Gus ate. So I thought it would be fun to use it as a rabbits nose.
Cate and Bea are sisters and they are ready for Valentines Day with their Sweethearts!

This is Blackeyed Bea.
She was all ready for Valentines Day in her new dress!
Poor thing tripped and fell while trying to get into the carrot patch!
Oh well that just adds a bit of primitiveness to Bea(-:
"Carrot Nose Cate" will be along soon to visit...She is getting all "dolled up"
Hope all is well with you!

Ah yes, my Dad got my Mom a new computer chair for her birthday. Mom said her old one was not supportive enough for her old bones. She is quite old now you know! Birthdays seem to do that to a person my Mom says.
Anyhow, whatever!
I will sleep about anywhere as long as there's a blanket involved! This chair is nice and big and my Mom can hold me on her lap much easier!
It is quite comfy just like Dad said.
Mom is going to have to wait her turn I'm afraid.
I will probably get up when the birthday pie is served.
Right now I think I will just snooze for a bit.
Thanks Dad!(-:

Mid January

What do you do when you are feeling blue?
When the weather outside, is gloomy too?
Do you read?
Do you write?
Do you take time for you?

When the sun won't shine,
And the wind blows hard.
Leaves lie everywhere in your yard.
Plants are dead, frozen and cold.
Do you feel like this, is getting old?

Do you fill up a cup with something hot?
Grab a blanket,
Wonder not?
Dream of life, warmth and dirt?
The smell of rich, fresh, tilled earth.

Enjoy your rest.
As winter rolls along.
Make plans for your future,
Be happy,
Carry on.

Did you feel that?
That drip upon your head?
It came from up above.
The ancient grey pine said.

It soaked up in my branches
It slid along my trunk.
It rolled down my needles,
Preparing to fall, kerplunk!

It started in the sky.
The gloomy darkness called.
It began as water droplets
That became a cold dense fog.

I don't care where it came from
Said the toad in a whirl.
I just need to find an umbrella
To give my dear, sweet, girl.

Don't worry about a shelter,
To shield your girl from harm.
Come sit, under my canopy,
She'll be safe inside your arms.

I hope you are enjoying my corny poems(-: I am going to be working on Valentines Day decorations the rest of the week so hopefully I will have something to share on Friday!
Enjoy the rest of your week!!!(-:

Web of cold,
Winters tender flesh.
Glistening in the sun,
Like a frosty net.

Fog

Fog
Icy,cold,
Getting old,
Just like me.

Starless nights,
Endless dark,
While Spring sleeps.

Peacefully,
Waiting,
Just like me.
