Do you long for the Conversation Heart candy every year when it comes out? Well our family does. We can't wait to get some. Well this year I bought some as soon as it was out on the shelf and boy were we all disappointed! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww
So I wrote a letter to the company and showed my unhappiness(-: Here is what they wrote back and said.

Thank you for contacting the New England Confectionery Company regarding your experience with our Conversation Hearts. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to inform us of this incident and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

We are sorry to learn you were disappointed with the new heart flavors you purchased.

I am sorry but the Original one’s are no longer.

These are the only flavor changes all others are the same.

Wintergreen is no longer

Banana is now Lemon

Lime is now Sour Apple

We appreciate your patronage and hope you will continue to enjoy our products.

Sincerely,

Theresa Denis
Consumer Correspondent

To me these are not the powdery delicious candies that I have had since I was a kid. These all have a fruity nasty taste to them. I found a blog online about this and it seems I am not alone! Have you tried them yet? Let me know what you think!!!!

I haven't bought any of this candy in years. Probably since my kids were little. Now I know not to!

I do remember being fond of this candy when young... they probably do not use anything remotely 'real' in them anymore. Artificial everything. Just a guess. Good for you for writing the company... if more people did this sort of thing about many issues we could change so much. ;>)

What corporate nerd thought we didn't want crumbly hearts with wintergreen flavor any more?

I'm okay with lemon replacing banana. I was never fond of banana, but I didn't realize until I read your post that banana was the flavor.

My mother always, always bought candy hearts.

Yes, it use to be a tradition. I just try not to get started on sweets now. But too bad they couldn't just let something good stay that way. Good for you that you wrote to the company.

Cindee girl it looks like you have had a spammer attack (that is why I have comment approval .. to stop them before they can get to be published) I can understand how disappointed you are with the candy .. overall most candy has changed to cut costs which means cutting enjoyment too ? we love those hot cinnamon hearts and sometimes you get a batch fromhell that taste awful .. bad candy sucks ! LOL

Candy hearts used to be one of my favorite valentine treats. I hate that when they get rid of an old favorite to replace it with something new, cheaper, and more laden with chemicals than ever. Sounds like a bad decision to me, good for you for writing them a letter. Maybe if they get enough complaints and their sales go down they'll get the message?

On a side note, I was getting so much spam I switched to word verification. I think most of that spam is computer generated anyway.

Hi Brenda,
I still get the kids candy every year(-: They are adults but they still request it anyhow..(-: Of course then I have to eat it too(-:

Hi Carol,
I would guess the candy is pure sugar with artificial flavors. Still the old kind was the best!

Hi NellJean,
I know who decides these things? They should be fired!(-:
I don't see why they just don't keep the original and add a different type for fun.

Hi My Little Family,
Well guess you wouldn't care then???(-: Maybe the dogs would though...(-:

Hi creekside rummager,
It seems that everyone has to change everything. I hate change so it doesn't go over well with me.
Like when they move everything around at a store you go to. Then you spend twice as long trying to find everything. )-:

Hi GardenJoy4Me,
I hate spammers. Seems like I am getting a lot. I tried the approval thing but was forgetting to check and approve them...lol(-: So I just delete when I see them now. I should block anonymous people from commenting but that might eliminate someone that really wants to.

Hi Cinj,
I read on a blog that the Original candy hearts could be found at Dollar Store and Dollar General and also the 99 cent stores. So I went there yesterday and they had some left!(-:
I hate doing the word verification thing cuz a lot of people don't like that but it may be the only option if it keeps going like this. I get at least one a day. )-:

I bought some weeks ago--but not to eat. I put them in glass jars for Valentines. Doesn't it just dive you crazy that things change lile they do? Why can't they leave the good things alone!

I also haven't had any of these in years.

Sorry one of your favorites has fell victim to company change. So sad that happens to a lot of our old time favorites.

I love the original conversation hearts, too! I bought some just a few weeks ago at the dollar store, not realizing that it was likely the last time I'd ever have them! :o( I went searching for more over the weekend and all I saw were those nasty Sweetheart candies. I have even checked a couple of the dollar stores and couldn't find them. I had a feeling something was up and now I am so disappointed to find that they have discontinued them! I will have to write the company, too, to let them know they have another disappointed customer. You'd think that if they had a candy that has been popular for 144 years, that they wouldn't be dumb enough to mess with it! So sad.
