We went to a local Home and Garden Show on the weekend and I bought this sunface. I was not impressed at all with the show. There was nothing to see that interested me. Mainly, it was just advertising displays of home items. Even a Funeral Home had a display! The garden displays were basically stone garden items and a few fountains set up. There was even a pond set up on a small trailer that was portable. I guess that was so they could transport it around to shows? There were a few swimming pools on display. They were the pop up kind and the pre-fab kind. It was nothing like I have seen online of other cities shows. There is another one this weekend and I won't be going because it looks like more of the same. I will just continue to look at everyone elses wonderful photos and enjoy them! Keep posting those pictures! I love seeing all the cool stuff at your home and garden shows!

This field is in front of our house. I walk my dogs by there several times a day. We live on 5 acres so this is part of our property.
This is a picture standing in that field above. The mountain is Crater Peak in the Thousand Lakes Wilderness which is a popular back packing place.
This picture is of the pine tree where the Great Horned Owls are nesting.
Another picture in that same field looking at a large oak tree.
These are the frogs my brother rescued from the recycle bin for me. He was out for his noon run and stopped by to see what was there and found these! So he carried them back to work one in each hand as he ran. I can just picture that! (-: I love how they are already rusty, just the way I love them!(-:

Last Friday night about midnight I was just getting to sleep when my husband said there was something outside the glass sliding door. He said he could hear a scratching or brushing sound. I have terrible hearing so I didn't hear a thing(-: I thought about a phone call I had about 11pm from my dad who said there was a helicopter flying around down by his place and police driving by. I was wide awake after that! (-:
My husband got his flashlight and shined it through the glass. Surprise, it was nothing terrible, it was a little hummingbird.(-: He said what are you going to do? I said, why me? (-:
The cats like to sit next to that window at night. So you can imagine how long a little hummingbird would survive.
I jumped out of bed and went out to rescue the little bird. I thought maybe it was stuck or something. It was just cold and could not fly. So I took it inside and cooked up some hummingbird food.(-: I cooled it down really quick by putting it in the freezer for a few mins(-: I left it luke warm so it would warm up the bird.
We had fun watching it suck up the food from the teaspoon! A long tongue came out and it just sucked it up like a straw! What a fun experience. I have never been that up close and personal to a hummingbird in the 26 years I have been feeding them. It drank a lot!
After I fed it and warmed it up it was still not flying. It was almost 1am by now so we decided to put it in a little square black bag with a zip mesh top. I thought if it lived through the night it would be a miracle. At least it was safe from the cats. I went to bed!
I woke up the next morning to a buzzing sound. I knew my little critter was alive and well. I got up and fed it some more food and then took it outside to let it go. I sat it on the hummingbird feeder so it could get use to being outside again and it stayed there for several minuets. I thought maybe it still could not fly so I went over to it and picked it up in my hand. Well, that was all it took and the little bird buzzed off for the trees! I was so happy to see it survive and fly again! It was a rare experience and I was happy I was able to be part of its recovery.
I sure wish animals and birds could talk to us and let us know what is going on don't you?(-:

One day in June my husband was coming home from work when he found a fawn laying in the road about a half mile from our house.
His mother had been killed and laid dead nearby. He called me to ask what he should do. I said bring it home I guess. What else was there to do? Silly question.(-: I know what you are all thinking! We spent the next year raising our beloved Vinny.
There were many fun times and great experiences raising a deer. First off he insisted he was a house pet. He wanted to be where we were all the time. That included sleeping in my bed at night. Yes, Vinny was house broke. It didn't take long for him to be trained either. Much easier then a puppy! He would knock on the door to come in and go stand by the door to go out. If you didn't let him out right away he would come to you just like a dog would to get your attention. Deer are very smart. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
Vinny was the sweetest, loving animal I have ever had. He became part of our family as soon as he came through the front door that day.
At the time we had a golden lab who thought things were a little out of hand here. Boe our lab was a hunting dog! He had to endure countless critters over his life. He took it in stride and went with the flow, although I don't think he ever really liked it.(-:
Anyhow, back to Vin. He loved his bottles. When I came home from work he would meet me at the gate. He would follow me into the house for his nice warm bottle of goat formula. Goats are a lot like Deer. Vinny could suck down a bottle faster then anything I had ever seen(-:
As he grew bigger he decided that Cheerios where his favorite snack food. He had to have a bowl to go along with his bottle. Then he decided that sliced apples were his favorite. So he also needed an apple to go along with his bowl of Cheerios. At Thanksgiving time we introduced him to homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Boy did he love that! He would moan as he was eating it. That became his new favorite treat(-:
During the day when I was at work he would hang out in the yard and eat whatever he wanted, but as soon as I came home he wanted his bottle.(-:
Vin loved to eat the bouquets of flowers my daughter got from her boyfriend! My daughter was not happy with him for that. I couldn't help but laugh, so she wasn't to happy with me either!
Vinny loved to play chase with our lab. They would have so much fun running around the yard. As he grew he could rest his head on the table and eat treats that we put near him(-:
As the months went by he roamed farther and farther into the wooded area. My daughter would see him on her daily runs. He would greet her and follow her back home.
One day he did not greet me at the gate when I got home from work. I knew this was the day he would be called to the wild. I was sad and I missed him so much. He would drop by at times for a quick visit but he would run off and not stay. Soon he would not come near us at all. Then finally he would not come back. So nature called and he listened. We saw him several times after that and he would always stop and look at me but he would not come up to me again. I will always remember him and I will always treasure our time together(-:

Does anyone remember seeing a beautiful bed frame planter filled with ornamental grasses? I saw it on here somewhere and now I can not find the picture. The grasses formed a sort of "bed spread" look. If you are the one with that picture on your blog or you know where it is can you please post a link? Thanks! Have a great Moanday!!!

My Daughters college class went on an Archaeology dig today at Bald Hill near Bend, California. She took these pictures for me because she knew I would be interested to see this. It is really something. Her teacher told her that a woodpecker pecked the holes in the tree. I guess this its way of storing his winter food. Click on the pictures to see them better!

It is trying to rain here today and I am hoping it does so I can stay inside and be a slacker(-:
