Look up in the tree, what might it be? It's not superman... It's not a squirrel... It's a baby Great Horned Owl! Yay at least one survived. Hopefully there is another one but I couldn't see it yet.(-: Pops Owl
Cindee ... what a wonderful visitor to see ! I wish we could have more wildlife nearer to us .. an owl hooting would be fantastic .. frogs singng would send me to heaven .. you are one lucky gardener girl !
Wow, that is so special. I miss our owls, shortly after they came out of the nest we haven't seen the family any more. probably best, I spent a lot of my time watching and checking up on them. Enjoy, not everyone gets to have such a special treat!~Jacque
Hi perennialgardener, I know I never would have guessed that they would have white babies. You would think a wild bird would need to be more camoflaged.
Hi Tina, It is a cutie pie(-:
Hi Joy, I do enjoy all the wildlife here. I feel like part of the owls family(-: I have been watching them since January. They are really cool birds and so devoted to their babies(-:
Hi Jacque, I know I check on them several times a day(-: They are use to me now and they look down on me when I say hi to them. THey are so pretty. Yesterday was the first time I had seen the baby so I was thrilled. I read that it takes a several weeks for the babies to be able to fly. Until then they will sit on a branch of the tree. So I should have a lot of pictures!!!!(-:
Hi Darla, LOL It is pretty cool(-: I added a picture of Pop. He was sitting out on a branch just now when I went to check on them on my walk with the dogs(-:
Hi Sheila, Dad owl was babysitting this afternoon(-:
Hi Meadowview Thymes, I was just out looking at the owls. I didn't see the babies but Dad was sitting on a nearby branch.
Hi flowrgirl1, It is pretty rare to see I would think unless of course they are nesting in your yard(-: I just got a new picture of Dad(-:
They sure do camoflauge well even for being white! I'm SO glad at least one is alive. I still have visions of the dead baby owl photo you featured. Now this will get it out of my head!!! Happy May Day!
Hi Kathleen, Yes this will get rid of that poor dead owl picture in your mind. This little one is so cute and fluffy(-: I didn't see him today but I am sure he is up in the tree still hiding(-: I saw dad owl sitting on a nearby branch(-:
I think owls are such beautiful and interesting looking creatures. We occasionally here an old hoot owl outside our house at night. For some reason, hearing it always transports me back to my childhood, where we heard them so frequently at night.
My former neighbor/wildlife rehabber friend was rearing an orhpaned owl once (can't remember the kind). It was just a youngin', but it was really big, and it's claws were huge. It's feathers felt like velvety fur.
Hi Renna, The owls are so pretty. They do have huge claws! I love their eyes when they look at me(-: They are so beautiful!
Hi Wicked Gardener, An owl would do the trick with the squirrel problem! Although what is funny is a grey squirrel lives in the tree with the owl family. I see it running up and down the tree all the time right next to the owls and they don't seem to bother it at all. Maybe the squirrel is to fast(-:
Isn't that just the most precious little thing? WoW! How lucky are you to get that great shot? Cindee thanks so much for stopping by and giving your support. I really appreciate it. Will be back tomorrow!
Hi Raingardener, I am glad to hear you will be back tomorrow(-: We are lucky the owls decided to nest here it has been fun watching them(-: I will miss them when they are gone. My daughter bought me 10 baby chicks. Not sure I needed more but I got them! They are currently in the house with a light on. They are so cute(-:

Now how do I get one of those? Maybe he would fix my squirrel problem. . .
