That got your attention I bet. (-:
Well this is not that kind of nekkid lady! This is a bulb (Amaryllis belladonna) that only blooms in the late summer after a rush of green leaves in early spring! After spring the the leaves die down to the ground and in the late summer a stem emerges from the ground and produces a nice group of light pink blooms. It always signals the end of summer to me.

Wow--end of summer?? Can you believe we are even talking about that! Texas doesn't have much of a fall though--our summers last forever!

OOOH! I got a box of Naked Ladies from my mother in law (in Mendocino). I don't know if they can stand the Texas heat! They are in my refrigerator right now. Should I plant them in pots for inside?

Hi Shelly!!!!
Woooo Hooo!!! Party time????(-:
I am thinking of cold beer!!!! LOL

Plant those Naked Ladies!!! They love sun and heat. They do great here and I am sure they would do great there. Plant the bulb just below the ground. They kinda like to peak out of the soil. It might take a year or so to see them bloom but don't give up they will bloom when least expected!!!!

I have some of these too. Down here in the south folks almost get offended if you call them naked ladies, or as you said nekkid ladies. Cracks me up. The much preferred name is pink ladies. So I have to stick with this. Being from the north naked ladies is much better-and eye catching too!

Cindee and all other her readers-
Here is the "Show-Me State" they are commonly called "Surprise Lilies" because they just shoot up out of no-where (so it seems, as there is no foliage) and bloom on strong naked stalks. They are wonderful. Thanks for your posting and picture. Ours should be popping up in about three weeks.
