I just checked on Mrs. Cranky Pants and the eggs. One egg has hatched. Isn't it a cute little thing? She still has four that have not hatched, hopefully they hatch soon so we can move her and the babies into the nursery(-:
A little history about Mrs. C.P.---
She insisted she was going to set on eggs,(not hers, but that is another story),so I had to collect her a few from the white leghorn hen. We have two white leghorn roosters as you may remember. They were dumped on the road and we rescued them. So I guess they are fathers now too.(-: So far mom and baby are doing well in the 106 degree heat this afternoon.(-: I was able to convince Mrs. Cranky Pants to let me take a picture of her and her little one. She was not happy, but she allowed one photo. I wonder if I can sell the picture to People Magazine?

Update as of 7:30pm PT. One more chick has hatched. There are still 3 left.

Update as of 8-14-08 The other three eggs did not hatch so I guess they were duds. So Mrs. Cranky Pants has just two little chicks to care for. She is very happy!

tell Ms. cranky pants that my dorthy insisted on sitting on other eggs than hers and is now the proud mom of a duck. She has a fit when the little thing goes swimming but they love each other. LOL

Didn't you tell Mrs. Cranky Pants that motherhood has soooo many responsibilities? Bless her little old heart.

Hi Peggy,
I had a hen one time that hatched some duck eggs. Aren't chickens funny? (-: Thanks for commenting!!!

Hi Perennial Gardener,
She is a proud momma. She has been planning this all summer...ever since we got the roosters...lol

Hi Shelly,
I told her but she wouldn't listen to me...(-: She seems to be very pleased with herself.(-:

Hi Eve,
She is giving me a dirty look and I have to be careful because she rips skin off my arm when I get near her(-: Thats why her name is Mrs. Cranky Pants. She is not a friendly girl. She has that protective gene going on(-:

I never like my photo taken after hatching my babies either. Though Ms. C.P. sounds like her moods are always bad and worse!

LOL I know having a picture taken after hatching youngins' is not the best time for a photo op(-:

Good for you. Soon you'll have a whole flock. Think of the egg population. Hmmm lets see-fried, scrambled, boiled & ?.
I think Mrs Cranky Pants knows what she is doing. SHE needs help.

Miss Cranky Pants is too funny. She will make a great mommy! I miss the chickens that use to come over from next door for visits. Well, okay they would not come to visit us but to eat the corn under the deer's bucket!

Hi Lola,
I have 21 girls. That is why I really didn't want anymore ...but oh well now I have at least two more...lol We do have a lot of eggs. I sell them and that pays for their food(-: So basically they don't cost me anything to keep them(-:

Hi Skeeter,
I bet you do miss those girls coming over. They do help with bugs and all that...if you can look past to the digging up of all your plants(-:

Thanks so much for commenting on my site.

I have to say that I LOVE the fish you made! So cute.

My grandmother had Violets. She loved them. I have never had any, seems like a lot of work.

We have some broody orpingtons too. I usually get pecked severly when I gather eggs. I make Kevin get them. Even through a sweatshirt she can bruise me.

Hi kevin and Beth,
Thanks for your comments(-:
This hen is a Buff too. She is the only one that is cranky though. I have 5 others that are just as friendly as can be and actually stand up and let me gather eggs if they are in the nest. I guess a setting hen is just a different story(-:

Congrats on the grandchicks! They/it are adorable. I had some chickens when I was a child. They were Rhode Island Reds and meaner than a snake. So I understand you calling her Mrs. Cranky Pants. Great photo shoot even if it was just one.

Hi Tina,
Thanks for commenting about mrs cranky pants(-: She is doing well with her little chicks.

Hi Anna,
Mrs. Cranky Pants has two chicks now. I think that is enough for her. She seems to stress over them so much...lol(-: She will rip your hand off if you are not careful. Major ouchie!!!LOL
