Record High for Yesterday 112 and Passing of a Girlfriend

It was so hot yesterday. I stayed indoors most of it. One of my girlfriends(buff orpington hen) didn't make it. )-: I felt so bad. I did everything I could for them but with the heat it was just to much for her I guess. Although, today I am running to the feed store to get some electolytes for them. I read on someones blog that it helps with the heat. Kinda like a gatoraide for a human....Anyhow....I hope she is off to a better place where it is much cooler and smoke free(-: RIP!! No picture because...well you understand.

Oh, Cindee, I am so sorry your little gal didn't make it. Poor little thing! That kind of heat is not good for any of us.

Aw, Cindee, I'm so sorry. :-(

It's getting pretty hot here, too, though not that hot. Our humidity is much higher than your's, though, so it feels miserable enough outdoors.

I have to take my little dog outside on a leash to do her 'bidness', or else she will run away. I park myself under a shade tree each time, and pray for a breeze!

Hi Everyone! Thanks for your kind words! It is 109 out right now and I just got home from the feed store and got the electrolytes for the girls. I filled their water and hopefully they drink some and it helps. I got them some seeds to peck at too. Hopefully they will feel better.

I'm so sorry for you and that little girl. I have been worried about how all that heat and smoke is affecting everyone including our animal friends. It's so stressful. I would be very tired of it.

I will be praying for the heat to come down and for your little girl to pull through. Try to just take it easy till the heat eases off a bit. Electrolytes should do the trick. The vet prescibed Gatorade for one of my dogs once. IT seemed to work miracles overnight. He was feeling better the next morning.

I'm sorry cindee. I just reread that post and realize she didn't make it. My heart goes out to you.

Oh maaan! I'm sorry about your hen. Heat is so tough on the critters. I once raised angora rabbits, and my ex got so upset because I brought their cages inside in the worst heat. He'd have raised Cain if it was chickens! Good luck with the electrolytes.

I surely do! I'm sorry. We love our pets and chickens! You have my condolences, Cindee.

I always forget how hot it gets up where you are. Seems like when you're that close to Oregon it should be raining all the time. But that's the coast.

I can't even comprehend those temperatures--I'm speechless.

Sorry about your chicken. Keep those girls cool!

I'm praying for the other chickies today!! I know you said they are doing well--but this is rough stuff for them. I'm thinking about you.
